Cyclists made a stop at Kauffman Stadium on their way through to the east coast as part of the annual trek by employees of Bristol-Meyers Squibb to raise money for cancer research. In addition to the 80 member relay team, the drug company promises to match donations up to $500,000 in an effort to raise research funds.
“Efforts like these are vital to advancing cancer research,” Roy Jensen, director of The University of Kansas Cancer Center said. Sami Mansfield, mgr., wellness program development at The University of Cancer Center joined Dr. Jensen and others from the hospital in helping to warm up and send off the riders for their next leg of the coast to coast tour. Among the guests and the interviews below are cancer survivors Tim Grimes and actor Eric Stonestreet’s mom, Jamey. Dr. Jensen also explains how research is gaining in the cancer fight. Jane Rubinstein with Coast 2 Coast 4 Cancer shares the joy she feels in this annual event and knowing where the money goes.
