As children go back to school, many parents bring them to the pediatrician for their annual physical exam. There’s a lot more involved that just opening wide and saying “Ahhhhhh.”

Dr. Steve Lauer, a pediatrician at The University of Kansas Hospital, offers advice for parents and explains what doctors look for in back to school physicals. He also explains why concussion testing is becoming more common, why vaccinations are so important, what he says to parents who are unsure about vaccinations and the special needs of adolescents.
