Fans at the K.C. Aviation Expo and Airshow at the Charles B. Wheeler Airport this weekend will “ooh and ahh” at the skill of the Blue Angels precision flying team. But, they probably won’t realize these pilots from the Navy and Marines are putting their bodies through a lot of stress in the process.
Dr. Lee Norman is a former Air Force flight surgeon and now Chief Medical Officer of The University of Kansas Hospital. Dr. Norman says the pilots face as much as nine times the force of gravity and they have to prepare their bodies for that.
