The Brain Injury Association of Greater Kansas City sponsored a private showing of the new movie “Concussion,” which dramatizes the link between repeated concussions and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Following the screening was a discussion with a panel of experts in concussion and brain injury. Among those experts was Dr. David Smith, a concussion expert with the Sports Medicine and Performance Center at The University of Kansas Hospital. Dr. Smith comments on the increasing number of concussions, how they are treated, how serious they can be, how movies like this help make more people aware of the potential long-term effects and the advantages of being treated at a facility with a concussion program like The University of Kansas Hospital.
