The Kansas City Royals continue working hard at their spring training camp in Surprise, Arizona, under the watchful eye of head team physician Dr. Vince Key, who’s also an orthopedic surgeon for the Sports Medicine and Performance Center at The University of Kansas of Health System. Dr. Key knows that at this time of year, a lot of youth baseball teams are in their spring training as well, and he says there are four areas every young player should be focused on.
In the video, he explains why hydration is so important, and has surprising information about how far ahead of the event an athlete needs to begin drinking fluids. He also says why proper nutrition is essential, and talks about new studies showing how critical it is to get enough sleep, and how sleep deprivation can hurt the ability to compete. And he explains what a recovery day is so important in planning a workout schedule.
