With the All Star break over, the Kansas City Royals are entering the second half of a long season, one that’s been full of injuries to key players. Those players not in the All Star game took the four day break to rest and recharge their bodies.

Dr. Vince Key is the team doctor for the Royals and sees patients at The University of Kansas Hospital Sports Medicine and Performance Center. He says breaks like that are vital in helping pro baseball players pace themselves over the six month season, in which days off are few and far between. In the video he explains why players in different positions need different kinds of rest and recovery time. He also explains why being in the playoffs, while exciting for the fans, can affect the team the following season.
