For a lot of young athletes, this is the time of year when they trade in their football pads and soccer shoes for baseball gloves and cleats. But even for the best athletes, this transition can be a challenge.

Dr. Paul Schroeppel is an orthopedic surgeon at The Sports Medicine and Performance Center at The University of Kansas Hospital. Besides young athletes, he treats professional players from the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. He also has tips for young athletes who are making the transition from winter to summer sports. And he explains why hip injuries are one of the most rapidly growing areas of sports medicine.
