This Sunday, November 3, at 2 a.m. most of The United States will “fall back” to Standard Time, which means most of us will turn our clocks back an hour before bedtime on Saturday. Other than showing up early or late for church Sunday morning, most of us make the transition smoothly. But sometimes our bodies take a little more adjusting.
Dr. Bob Whitman is a sleep specialist at The University of Kansas Health System. In this video, he talks about the two biggest things we can do to help our bodies adjust to the time change. He also explains why sometimes it’s harder to adjust the older we get, and why children may need special help in the transition. And he explains how the body’s internal clock works, and how to get it in synch with the external clocks that regulate our lives. And he says, you may not realize it, but your pets have the same internal clock…and will need help with the time change as well. He also explains why you might want to rethink your routine of changing all of your clocks on Saturday before bed and just focus on your wakeup alarm clock.
