Kansas City, Kan. –  Babe’s Place at Friendship Inn is officially open. Lead donor Frank Thompson funded the construction of the lodging facility named in honor of his late wife, Babe, who he had been married to for 66 years.

“The people who are going to stay here probably don’t have the money to stay in a hotel for four or five weeks while their children or family are treated at the health system,” said Frank Thompson, lead donor. “Now, they will have a nice place to stay that’s affordable.”

For more than 25 years, Friendship Inn has been a home-away-from home for patients receiving care at The University of Kansas Health System and The University of Kansas Cancer Center.  The original Friendship Inn was an older home converted into  boutique-type lodging with four rooms. Guests shared bathrooms and a kitchen.

Babe’s Place has 18 guest suites with modern amenities including private bathrooms, strong Internet and a mix of private and public spaces. Each room has a small refrigerator to store snacks and medications. Guests can park in a private lot behind the building. Babe’s Place is located near 47th and Rainbow Blvd at 4403 Rainbow Boulevard.
