All Things Heart - Diabetes and the Heart

More than 37 million Americans live with diabetes, and a majority of them have type 2 diabetes. It’s something that can go unnoticed for a long time. Rob Mundt first discovered something was wrong at his yearly physical. He was in his 50s when he had elevated blood pressure and blood sugar readings. For twenty years, Rob did his best to manage his diabetes. He recently ended up in the ER and discovered damage to his heart due to his diabetes. The CDC found if you have diabetes, you’re twice as likely to have heart disease or a stroke than someone who doesn’t have diabetes—and at a younger age. Rob credits his doctors for helping him recover and explaining in simple terms how diabetes affects his body. All Things Heart explores the damage diabetes can cause to your heart, who is at risk, and the changes you can make to lower your odds of developing complications.
