Can You Be Scared to Death?

'Tis the season of ghosts, goblins and other things that go bump in the night. And while most Halloween terrors are totally harmless (think jack-o'-lanterns and pointed hats), the frightful holiday might make you wonder: Is it really possible to be scared to death? There's no question about it, the answer is yes, says Dr. Andrew Sauer, director of the Heart Failure Program at The University of Kansas Health System.

In the video, Dr. Sauer explains the difference between “fake fear” and real fear, and how it can hurt your heart. He talks about who is at risk for heart attack, and what physically happens to the heart when a person is stressed or scared. He also shares the advice he gives his patients at this time of year and heading into the holidays to keep the heart healthy.
