How Young Athletes Can Transition From Summer to Fall Sports

Fall is a big time for sports in the Kansas City area, from football to soccer to volleyball and even fall baseball and softball. With most schools starting soon, many young athletes are making the transition from summer to fall sports. That’s why it’s important for athletes and their families to have the best medical advice possible as they prepare for their sport.

In the video, David Smith, MD, medical director of Youth Sports at The University of Kansas Health System’s Sports Medicine and Performance Center, offers his advice on how to best make that transition. He says they need time to recover, both physically and mentally. Dr. Smith also says the key is having the right mindset and approach to the transition. The most important elements are sleep, hydration, nutrition, and emotional support.
