Hydration And Nutrition For Young Athletes

Fall sports seasons are just beginning for many area athletes. Doctors agree the most overlooked areas in training are proper hydration and nutrition. Dr. Randy Goldstein, with The University of Kansas Hospital Sports Medicine and Performance Center, talks about why more fluids are vital to combat the heat and humidity, the best way for athletes to know when they’re properly hydrated, the important role nutrition plays in an athlete’s performance, and the surprising drink that’s best for recovery after a workout.

Also in the video is Addyson Ruby, a high school aged gymnast, with plans to compete in college. Doctors discovered she had a kidney stone, and she talks about what happened, how it affected her workouts and the role that hydration played in her recovery. The video also includes Addyson working out in the gym.
