Cancer Free After the Storm

Kansas City, Kan- A woman’s mild symptoms—sinus congestion, ringing in her ears and unusual fatigue—led to a surprising and serious diagnosis of stage 3 colon cancer. After routine bloodwork revealed severe anemia from internal bleeding, a colonoscopy confirmed the cancer. Doctors explained that colon cancer can often present subtle symptoms, especially when bleeding occurs internally and isn’t visible.

She underwent robotic surgery to remove the tumor and lymph nodes, followed by chemotherapy and immunotherapy because her cancer had a rare genetic marker that responds well to immune-based treatment. After completing treatment, she is now cancer-free, and doctors emphasize the importance of recognizing subtle symptoms, knowing family history, seeking second opinions when needed, and getting regular colonoscopies starting at age 45 to detect or prevent colon cancer early.
