The University of Kansas Health System is treating a total of 42 COVID patients today, down from m 45 yesterday. Other significant numbers:
- 9 with the active virus today, 9 yesterday
- 1 in ICU, 3 yesterday.
- 1 on ventilator, 1 yesterday
- 33 hospitalized but out of acute infection phase, 36 yesterday
Key points from today’s guests:
Dr. Dana Hawkinson, medical director of Infection Prevention and Control, The University of Kansas Health System
- The health system will soon stop giving COVID tests to all incoming patients and instead test only those who think they are infected or are symptomatic. This may affect the daily health system COVID numbers.
- Outdoor activities continue to be safer from COVID than indoor activities. Keeping six feet apart and wearing a mask when closer is best.
- FDA meeting this week to discuss recommendations about additional vaccine doses
- Most current information shows it is allowed to receive a booster from a different manufacturer than your original vaccine maker
Dr. Luke Thompson, Sports Medicine, The University of Kansas Health System
- Treats a wide variety of injuries from active six-year-olds to those in their 80’s
- Works with pro and high school athletes as well as those middle aged “weekend warriors” not used to as much physical activity
- The key to avoiding injuries is to work your way up to different activity levels rather than pushing your body to the limit all at once
- Eating healthy and staying hydrated are important no matter what kind of workout or sports activity you take part in
Ryan Sloop, program manager, The Sports Medicine and Performance Center
- Demonstrated K Vest Swing Motion 3D Swing Analyzer for golfers
- Shows how different parts of the body are moving through the golf swing in real time to improve efficiency and avoid injuries
- Same technology used by many professional golfers
- Available for a 90 minute one-on-one evaluation
