- You don’t have to increase your caloric intake the first trimester.
- Increase caloric intake by 300 and 400 calories in your 2nd and 3rd trimester respectively. (Based on normal 2000/day calorie diet)
- Depends on Body max index how much you should gain.
- Myplate.gov good website to get healthy eating options.
- Body mass index of 18.5 - 25 lbs. women should gain 25-35 pounds of weight gain.
- Body mass index of 25.5 or higher weight gain should be 11-20 pounds.
- Most over the counter medicine is safe. Talk to doctor.
- If you are thinking of getting pregnant talk to your doctor and see if the medicine, you are on are safe or should you consider switching.
- Hair, nails, massages are safe. Find a place for a prenatal massage.
- You know your body and your baby; some babies are more active are different times of the day. Pay attention to when your baby is active.
- Generally, you start to feel your baby around 5 months pregnant.
- If you are concerned because your babies’ movements have changes, contact your OBGYN.
- Constipation is common in pregnancy. Prenatal vitamin has a lot of iron.
- Increase your water intake if you are constipated.
- There are safe over the counter medicine to help with constipation.
- Prenatal vitamin should be taken as soon as you start trying to conceive.
- Eat small meals and frequent snacks.

- Travel in US is safe for healthy, low risk moms up to 36 weeks.
- Take breaks, walk around, compression stockings when flying.
- International travel: do not go anywhere you don’t want to have a baby in 3rd trimester.
- Don’t stop taking prescription medicine without talking to your doctor first.
- Limit caffeine intake to 200 milligrams of one cup of coffee a day.
- Exercise is great during pregnancy. Whatever you were doing before pregnancy are great except for contact sports.
- When should you induce labor? Risk to mom and pregnancy. High blood pressure, preeclampsia etc.
- 30 weeks and on you can start discussing induction.
- Constipation and increased urination are common. Stay well hydrated.
- Shortness of breath is common in pregnancy. Rest and catch your breath. Concerns are persistent cough, feeling faint, chest pain, heart racing – talk to your doctor.
