New Dietary Guidelines Will Change The Way You Eat

Just in time for your New Year’s resolution to eat healthier foods, the government has released new dietary guidelines…the first update in five years.

The new guidelines recommend a "healthy eating pattern" with limited sugar and saturated fat, less salt and more vegetables and whole grains.

Christine Young, a registered dietician at The University of Kansas Hospital, talks about one of the biggest changes. For the first time there’s a suggested limit on sugar. The guidelines say added sugar should make up only 10% of your daily calories. Young also talks about why up to five cups of coffee a day are now OK, plus the new guidelines on red meat, saturated fats, cholesterol and eggs.
