The Heat is on for the 5th Annual Chiefs Fantasy Camp

The calendar says spring, but it feels like the middle of summer to the campers attending the fifth annual Kansas City Chiefs Fantasy Football Camp at Arrowhead Stadium. Former Chiefs players lead the nearly 100 campers from around the country in various skill stations and give them a taste of what it’s like to be a pro football player. The event raises money for the Center for Concussion Management at The University of Kansas Health System.

In the video, Dr. Michael Rippee, a sports neurologist at The University of Kansas Health System, explains why the partnership with the Chiefs and the National Football League is so important, and how the proceeds from the Fantasy Camp help spread the message about concussion awareness, safety and treatment.

Also in the video, Dr. Steven Stites, chief medical officer and pulmonologist at The University of Kansas Health System. Dr. Stites was a Fantasy Camp participant a few years ago…and he talks about how hot it can get on the field. He also has practical advice for the campers, and any of us, who are out in the heat for extended times. He says the most common problem is dehydration, and without constant fluid intake, it’s easy to develop heat stroke…a very serious condition. He also tells what symptoms to look for.

The video also includes b-roll of campers going through drills and playing in the 7 on 7 flag football contest.
