The National Safety Council reports traffic deaths climbed 6 percent this year and a record 14 percent over the last two years. The most recent numbers show Missouri with 2,349 fatalities from 2012-2014 and Kansas with 355 fatalities in 2015.

The head of the Level I Trauma program of The University of Kansas Health System, Justin Green, M.D., says the national trend reflects what he is seeing in Kansas and Missouri.

In the video, Dr. Green says locally he sees the major problems as seat belt compliance and distracted driving.
