Twin Sisters Sacrifice Breasts & Ovaries to Dodge Cancer

Twins Angie Lucchi and Amy Shields share a trait that sent them to cancer surgeons to avoid the fate of other family members.

Angie Lucchi and Amy Shields are twin sisters who share everything, including the hereditary BRCA gene that can cause breast cancer. When other family members contracted the disease, Angie and Amy proactively decided to have their breasts and reproductive organs removed, greatly reducing their chances of getting breast cancer. Both women made very personal choices that were right for them. Angie, married with two children, and Amy, single with no children share their experiences. Dr. Julie Holding, breast cancer surgeon at The University of Kansas Hospital, explains the procedure and the options for double mastectomy patients.
